Current vacancy

Starting on 1 October 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, we are looking to appoint one or two Hilfskräfte for 20 to 40 hours per month with a good knowledge of Arabic. These Hilfskräfte will work in particular with our post-doctoral researcher Dr. José Bellver in order to collect manuscript catalogues of libraries around the world and to inspect these catalogues for manuscripts containing works by or related to Ptolemy (cf. the first four tasks above). Advanced reading skills of Arabic are therefore absolutely essential.

Please send applications by email (in English or German) to the research leader Benno van Dalen (info {at}, preferably by 15 August 2016. We intend to have a first round of interviews with suitable candidates in late August / early September, but will accept further applications until the position(s) have been filled. Requests for further information may also be sent to the above address.

Note that the Hilfskraft position can count, if requirements are met, as a Praktikum for a bachelor’s or a master’s degree at the Institut für den Nahen und Mittleren Osten of the LMU.
