Work A.7

Ptolemy
Handy Tables

Content A set of astronomical tables, together with canons for their use.

Origin Greek (Πρόχειροι κανόνες, ‘Handy Tables’). Only the canons are extant in their original version. The tables themselves are known through Theon of Alexandria’s version. The Handy Tables do not survive as such in Arabic and in Latin (but see A.7.1), even though they represent the prototype of most Arabic and Latin astronomical tables.
