One of the three appendixes that were frequently copied at the end of al-Ṭūsī’s Taḥrīr al-Majisṭī (C.1.18) in manuscripts that ultimately derive from an exemplar attributed to Quṭb al-Dīn al-Shīrāzī (cf. C.1.18a and C.1.18c, and see the note on these appendices in the description of C.1.18). According to its title, this is a ‘useful preliminary’ for the computation of the anomaly of the planets from their eccentricity. It consists of a series of geometrical proofs with six diagrams and a small sketch of ratios within the text. Full title: Muqaddima nāfiʿa fī maʿrifat al-ikhtilāfāt allatī taḥduthu bi-sabab al-khurūj ʿan al-markaz.
