First International Workshop of the project Ptolemaeus Arabus et Latinus
The project Ptolemaeus Arabus et Latinus (PAL), in cooperation with the project ALFA (Alfonsine Astronomy, at the Paris Observatory) organises its first international workshop on Monday through Wednesday, 19-21 November 2018. Under the title “Pre-Modern Astronomical and Astrological Data in Tabular Form: Storage, Edition and Mathematical Analysis”, 12 international experts on astronomical and astrological tables in different cultures will present methods to critically edit and mathematically analyse such tables. Furthermore, they will discuss the new possibilities that the use of computer programs and online databases provide to facilitate their work and allow for more powerful methods of analysis and comparisons of tables from a much wider range of cultures and sources.
A demonstration will be given of the brandnew Digital Information System for the History of the Astral Sciences (DISHAS), which is being developed by the projects PAL and ALFA together with the project HAMSI (History of Astronomical and Mathematical Sciences in India, University of Canterbury, New Zealand). Students and young scholars are invited to participate in two practical sessions, in which the basic use of DISHAS is explained and some tables can be entered and recomputed.

For further information on the practical sessions and information on how to apply for participation and for the small number of grants for travel and lodging that are available, see this PDF file.
