Prov.:statement of ownership with the name erased, dating the purchase of the manuscript to 1080/1669-70 (343r). An octagonal seal by Claudius James Rich (d. 1822), dated 1812, with the famous quatrain by Saʿadī balagha l-ʿulā bi-kamāli-hi, kashafa al-dujā bi-jamāli-hi, ḥasunat jamīʿu khiṣāli-hi, ṣallū ʿalay-hi wa-āli-hi from the preface of the Gulistān (1v).
Cod.: paper, II+343+IIa ff. (foliated with Arabic-European numerals in pencil; no catchwords). A single black cursive naskh hand; almost fully undotted ductus, no shaddas, hamzas or vowels. Numerals and abjad notation in black without overlines. Book headings in cursive red or black naskh overlined in red; chapter headings in black overlined in red introduced by the term faṣl. Substantial diagrams in red and black; few tables with black lines and abjad numbers in red. Codex in excellent condition; no moisture or mold stains, last leaf damaged and restored. Dimensions: 252×132 mm, written area: 195×90 mm; 23 lines per page. Covers in reddish leather over paper pasteboards with fillets. Type III binding.
