round seal of endowment of the Ottoman historian Muḥammad Asʿad Efendi (d. 1264/​1848), partially trimmed but usually dated 1262/​1845-6 (1r; Mühür Veritabanı, no. 9).

Cod.: paper, I+155 ff. (foliated with Arabic-European numerals in pencil, with the leaf after f. 6 skipped; two smaller unnumbered sheets after ff. 8 and 15; catchwords, often trimmed). A single black naskh hand with tendency to nastaʿlīq; almost fully dotted ductus with some vowel marks and hamzas and occasional shaddas in the beginning, sparsely dotted ductus from the end of Book I onwards. Headings for Books I–VII in red, those for Books VIII–XIII in bold black thuluth; section titles in red, with section numbers written-out in red or in black overlined abjad. Propositions numbered in the margins with red overlined abjad numerals. Abjad numerals overlined or in red; Persian forms of Hindu-Arabic numerals mostly in red. Carefully drawn diagrams with red lines and black geometrical points or vice versa. Tables with red lines. Codex in acceptable condition; some damage by insects, some margins and folds repaired by different types of paper, some stains and smudges. Dimensions: 19×12 cm; written area: 13.3×6.7 cm; 25 lines per page. Marbled paper covers with a brown leather spine. Currently or previously type II binding (traces of a flap on ff. 34r and 68r).
