a statement of endowment of Bezmiâlem Sultan (d. 1270/1853), the consort of the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II and mother of Sultan Abdülmecid I, dated 1266/1849-50 and accompanied by her seal of endowment, dated 1256/1840-1 (Mühür Veritabanı, no. 752); both are surrounded by a golden frame with floral motifs (1r, 239v).

(foliated with Arabic-European numerals in pencil on every tenth recto, with only eight leaves between ‘160’ and ‘170’ and ten leaves between ‘190’ and ‘200’; additionally ff. 1–6 foliated with Hindu-Arabic and ff. 7–9 with Arabic-European numerals; catchwords). A quick nastaʿlīq hand; almost fully dotted ductus with a few maddas but no other vowel marks, hamzas or shaddas; sīn frequently indicated by three dots beneath. Book headings in red (Book III headed ‘al-maqāla al-ʿāshira’), headings for Books V–XIII missing; no basmala at the beginning. Chapter beginnings and qawlu-hu / aqūlu up to f. 99v in red, thereafter omitted. Abjad numerals and Persian forms of Hindu-Arabic numerals not highlighted. Diagrams with black lines and red geometrical points or exceptionally vice versa; some diagrams incomplete (e.g., 140r, 149v, 229v) or missing (68v, 212v). Tables with black lines. Codex in good condition; minor water damage in the margins and around some of the folds; some stains or smudges.
