Prov.:a very common seal of ownership by the Ottoman bibliophile, collector and poet Ḥājj Muṣṭafā Ṣidqī (d. 1183/1769) (1r; Mühür veritabanı, no. 30). A partially damaged ownership statement by ‘Muḥammad Mʿ…’ accompanied by an indecipherable seal (1r); two illegible seals (1r). Four large seals of endowment of Muḥammad Rāshid b. Jaʿfar Fawzī, i.e., Raşit Efendi, dated 1211/1796-7 (1v, 34v, 85v, 142v). Four modern library stamps (Ir, IIav).
Cod.: paper, II+142+IIa ff. (foliated with Hindu-Arabic numerals in red in the upper left corner of rectos up to f. 20, extended by us; erroneous folio number ‘137’ in pencil on f. 142v; catchwords). A very elegant and clearly readable naskh. Almost fully dotted ductus, very frequent tanwīns, many hamzas and shaddas. Book headings in large black and bold thuluth; chapters introduced by bold, black and mostly overlined abjad numerals; propositions (ashkāl) numbered in the margins by red and overlined abjad numerals. Hindu-Arabic and abjad numerals red and overlined, abjad numerals occasionally only overlined. Diagrams with lines in red and letters in black, or vice versa. From Chapter V.9 onwards, the spaces for diagrams were left empty, with the exception of the rosette on f. 72v. Tables with lines in red and headings in bold black or red thuluth. Manuscript in very good condition; minor stains in the margins (e.g., 58r, 96r). Dimensions: 238×135 mm, written area: 172×78 mm; 29 lines per page. Manuscript ornamented: headpiece mainly in golden-greenish, red and blue colours with floral motifs (1v); main text surrounded by rule-borders and a frame in the same golden-greenish colour. Dark-red slipcase with a flap, beautifully adorned with borders, a thick lobed frame and corner pieces comprised by small dots in gold. Covers and flap made of brown leather, decorated with a lobed frame, borders and corner pieces comprised of small dots in gold; covers ornamented with a large cylinder-shaped centre-piece in gold with pendants and coloured floral motifs; flap adorned by a mandorla in gold with a red-coloured rose motif in the centre. Doublures and inside of flap in dark brown leather with golden borders; doublures decorated with golden outlines of a centre-piece and inside-flap with golden outlines of a mandorla. Covers reinforced with red slips, apparently of leather, in the corners and on the spine and fore-edge flap; large black stains on the upper cover. Type II binding.

\1v\ أحمد اللّه مبدأ كلّ مبدأ وغاية كلّ غاية ومفيض كلّ خير ووليّ كلّ هداية وأرجو حسن توفيقه في كلّ بداية ونهاية وأصلّي على عباده المخصوصين بالعناية والدراية. سيّما محمّد وآله المرسومين (كذا) بالنبوّة والولاية المنقدين (كذا) من كلّ غماية (كذا) وغواية. وبعد فقد كنت برهة من الزمان عازمًا على أن أحّرر لنفسي ولسائر طلبة العلم من الإخوان كتاب المجسطي المنسوب إلى بطلميوس القلوذيّ الذي هو الدستور العظيم لأصحاب صناعة الهيئة والتنجيم تحريرًا لا تفوته مقاصد ذلك الكتاب النظريّة — \142v\ يا في خاتمة الكتاب قال وإذا تمّمنا جميع ما يفتقر إلى إرشاده من وجود ما يحتاج إلى وجوده وتصحيح ما يحتاج إلى تصحيحه إلّا الشاذّ بحسب ما وصل إليه علمي ومبلغ رائي وبقدر ما أعان الزمان عليه ودوّنا ما هو نافع في هذا العلم من غير أن قصدنا بذلك تكبّرًا وافتخارًا فلنختم الكتاب وأقول وإذ وفّقني الله تعالى أيضًا لإتمام ما قصدته وإنجاز ما وعدته فلأقطع الكلام حامدًا له على الآية ومصلّيًا على جميع أوليائه خصوصًا على خاتم أنبيائه والبررة من آله وأحبّائه وهو حسبي وعليه توكّلي. = Naṣīr al-Dīn al-Ṭūsī, Taḥrīr al-Majisṭī (C.1.18)
