Current shelfmark: ‘344’ (pastedown); old shelfmark or accession number: ‘1461/284’ (1r). The Buhar Library, founded by Munshī Sayyid Ṣadr al-Dīn in 1189/1775 as part of the Jalāliyya Madrasa in modern-day Bohar in Bengal, was presented to the Government of India in 1904.

Cod.: paper, 124 ff. (foliated with Hindu-Arabic numerals; catchwords). A single clear naskh hand for the text; fully dotted ductus, hamzas and maddas, no shaddas, occasional tanwīns. Book headings in large, bold naskh, occasionally centred; chapter numbers in large, bold and overlined abjad numbers; book and chapter titles in red. Proposition numbers with book references in red in the margins. Abjad numbers in the text in red and overlined; geometrical points in the text in black and overlined. A different hand for (most of) the tables: naskh tending to nastaʿlīq. Diagrams mostly in the margins; numerous tables and a rosette (68r). Codex apparently in good condition; significant ink corrosion, but hardly any other major damage visible on the scans; lower outer edge of f. 8 restored with a piece of paper, possibly to add or replace the figures in the lower margin of f. 8r. Dimensions: c. 22¾×19 cm, written area: c. 19×12 cm; 25 lines per page. Modern leather binding (stamp ‘Preservatives leather applied on 1/9/78’ on pastedown).

Cont.: astronomy. — Index: Ptolemaica (1v–124r). Folio 69 is a slip of paper with two diagrams and a small table related to planetary motions; between ff. 82 and 83 a piece of paper is inserted with eight small parts of a table glued on. Blank: none.

Only very few marginal corrections marked by siglum (4r–v). Extensive glosses in red in Book IV, sometimes starting between the lines of the body text; one of these is attributed to ‘Mawlānā Ghiyāth al-Dīn Jamshīd 〈al-Kāshī〉 (36v), many others starting with qawlu-hu. Glosses in the first part of the star catalogue (Book VII) in the hand that copied the tables.
