Prov.:an oval seal by … ʿAbd al-Laṭīf al-Ḥusaynī (1v); the same seal with a statement, both erased (1r). Faded seal in the margins (84v). The manuscript was obtained by the library on 4 Shahrivar 1329/26 August 1950 (library slip, front doublure).
Cod.: different types of paper, I+85+Ia ff. (unfoliated; catchwords, sometimes cut off from the scans). This is very probably a composite manuscript, i.e., different parts were bound together at a later stage. At least seven different hands. Seventh hand (63v–85v, the Ptolemaic work): a large naskh with tendency to nastaʿlīq; occasionally dotted ductus, few vowel marks, no shaddas or hamzas except for the basmalas, frequent elongated descenders and bowls; shukūk, masāʾil and ajwiba highlighted by elongated letters; abjad numerals overlined; diagram in red with black letters (66r); 14 lines per page. First hand (1v–8r): a dense nastaʿlīq; 16–21 lines per page. Second hand (9v–16v): a large naskh with tendency to nastaʿlīq; 8–13 lines per page. Third hand (17r–32v): a quick nastaʿlīq; 16–20 lines per page. Fourth hand (33v–50r): a quick nastaʿlīq; 13–22 lines per page. Fifth hand (51v–54r); a sloppy nastaʿlīq; 15 lines per page. Sixth hand (55r–62v): a very dense nastaʿlīq; 25–27 lines per page. Extensive marginal annotations in the first and second works. Codex in bad condition; fire damage around the lower corners (visible on ff. 8–18, 53–66); water damage throughout the codex, sometimes affecting the readability; frequent smudges; ff. I and 1 torn, binding becoming loose. Dimensions of the covers: 16×10.5 cm; written area in the Ptolemaic part: 9.5×4.5 cm. Covers made of cardboard with black leather and a quadrangular centre-piece with floral motifs on the upper cover. Type III binding, some parts formerly type II (traces of a flap on ff. 17–24).
