Prov.:large oval seal in Persian, Devanagari and Bengali: Kitāb Kālij Fūrt Wilyam (1r, 606v), and ‘College of Fort William’ in Latin script (1r), i.e., the library of the College of Fort William in Calcutta, founded in 1800 and dissolved in 1854. Oval and round stamps of the Asiatic Society (1r–v, 606r–v). The work was misattributed to al-Ṭūsī (library slip, in Latin script).
Cod.: paper, 606 ff. (foliated with Urdu forms of Hindu-Arabic numerals in pencil; catchwords). A single nastaʿlīq hand; almost fully dotted ductus with few vowel marks and shaddas in the beginning. Headings of Books I and II, chapter beginnings and qawlu-hu in red; some use of red overlines as markers in the beginning. Abjad and Hindu-Arabic numerals in red or overlined (in red). Diagrams with red lines and black geometrical points or vice versa; some diagrams in the margins (42v, 44r, 46v). Table lines in red. Text area in the last part surrounded by a double rule border in red. Codex in bad condition; heavy damage by insects, in particular around the folds, affecting the readability; minor moisture damage in some upper margins; restorations with Japanese paper, now turned dark brown. Dimensions: c. 27¼×16½ cm, written area: c. 19×10½ cm; 17 lines per page.
