Prov.:undated Ottoman ownership statement by Ḥāfiẓ Muḥammad Amīn Ḍiyāʾ with a note in Ottoman Turkish on al-Ṭūsī (1r). Table of contents of the Ptolemaic work with reference to the red foliation (2v–4r); the dates of completion and copying of this work by the same hand (8v). Acquired by the library on 22 July 1886 from Mr. Barré de Lancy (BnF, personal communication); Auguste Louis Fridolphe Barré de Lancy (1834–1924) was a member of the French foreign service in the Ottoman Empire. Round library stamps (7r, 8v, 9r, 109v and IIav). Old shelfmark: ‘Supplém. arabe 2576’ (1r). Accession no.: ‘R.C. 7853’ (2r).
Cod.: 109+IIa ff. (ff. 1–8 are later additions) (library foliation with Arabic-European numerals mostly in the lower left corner of rectos, from f. 44 onwards vertically with respect to the text area; an earlier foliation of the Ptolemaic work with red Hindu-Arabic numerals in the upper left corner of versos; no catchwords). Main hand: a rather sloppy naskh with minor tendency to nastaʿlīq; almost fully dotted ductus with many vowel marks, hamzas and shaddas in the Arabic parts. Fragments in three different hands (7v, 108v–109r). Headings of verba and commentaries in the Ptolemaic work highlighted in red, omitted for the last three verba; text of the verba mostly in large bold. Book and section headings in the second work in red; tables in the second work with red lines. Codex in good condition; water damage throughout, sometimes affecting the readability; small holes in the text area of ff. 9 and 101–109; smudges (43r, 44r). Dimensions: 18×10 cm; 25–26 lines per page, 38 lines on f. 109r. Vinaceous leather covers with a goldish frame, rule-borders and small corner-pieces. Type III binding, Persian safīna.
