a statement of ownership by Ibn Muḥammad Muḥsin al-Shīrāzī next to an octagonal seal (p. 3). An undated statement by Mullā Jaʿfar Shaykh al-Islām (p. 1), maybe Mullā Muḥammad Jaʿfar al-Lāhījānī; bequest statement dated 15 Rabīʿ al-awwal 1249/2 August 1833 by Mullā Muḥammad Jaʿfar al-Lāhījānī (or al-Lāhījī) (d. 1251/1835)—the celebrated commentator of Mullā Ṣadrā’s Kitāb al-Mashāʿir—to the students of the late Mīrzā Bāqir al-Nawwāb al-Lāhījānī (or al-Lāhījī), later al-Iṣfahānī (d. 1240/1824-5)—the author of a Persian commentary on the Nahj al-balāgha among other works—, so that the present manuscript would be added to the collection of the pious foundation (waqf) created with the books of Muḥammad Bāqir al-Majlisī (d. 1110/1699), thus in Isfahan (p. 3). A seal linked to the previous bequest statement containing the name Muḥammad Bāqir (p. 3). Erased statements and seals (pp. 1, 3, 475). Cod.: paper, 478 pp. (paginated with Hindu-Arabic numerals in pencil at the centre top of rectos; catchwords). A single clear taʿlīq hand in black. Ductus consistently dotted; no shaddas or vowels, substantial hamzas except on initial alifs. Numerals in abjad notation in black not consistently overlined. Book headings in taʿlīq in red; chapter headings in red introduced by the term faṣl; text quoted from Ṭūsī’s Taḥrīr al-Majisṭī introduced with formulaic qawlu-hu in red; text by Nīsābūrī introduced by formulaic aqūlu in red. Substantial diagrams with lines in black, geometrical points in red, and labels mostly in red. Few tables with lines in black, headings in red and black, and abjad numbers in red and black. Codex in excellent condition; hardly any moisture stains, slight damage to the covers and first and last pages. Dimensions: 26×16 cm, written area: 180×81 mm; 25 lines per page. Cover in brown leather over paper pasteboards; frame with fillets. Type II binding.
