a Persian note, dated 7 Shaʿbān 1269/​16 May 1853, by ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad, stating that he keeps the codex in trust for its owner, Mīrzā Muḥammad ʿAlī b. Muḥāmmad Ismāʿīl al-Ḥusaynī al-Qāʾinī (d. 1302/1884-5) of Isfahan (IIav). Persian collation statement dated Wednesday, … Rabīʿ al-awwal 1270/​December 1854 with a religious invocation (IIav); Persian collation statement in red dated … Jumādā l-ūlā 1270/January-February 1854 (IIav). Statement of purchase, dated 1322/1904-5, by Muḥammad al-Sharīf al-Ṭūsī from the library of the late Farhād Mīrzā Muʿtamid al-Dawla in Tehran (240v [in blue ink], IIav). An undated Persian statement mentioning al-Ṭūsī and his date of death, 18 Dhū l-ḥijja 672/​25 June 1274 (giving an incorrect ad year 1273), with an oval seal featuring a tughra (IIav). Damaged statement of purchase by Muḥammad ʿAlī (?) with an illegible date (1r). Some erased seals (1r, 1v, IIav). Persian notes, one dated 5 Dhū l-ḥijja 1391/​22 January 1972, by the scholar and politician Sayyid Jalāl al-Dīn Ṭihrānī (1896–1987) (1r, IIav); he received the codex from the heir of the late Hājj Muḥammad, son of Zayn al-ʿĀbidīn in Day 1350/​January 1972 (1r) and repeats and supplements information from notes in the manuscript; in particular, he suggests that the copyist and the custodian was the 13th/19th c. mathematician of Shiraz, Mīrzā ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad Riyāḍī Māzandarānī (d. 1311/1893-4) (1r, IIav). A black-and-white photograph of the Persian classical musician and teacher Hājj Āqā Muḥammad Irānī (1872–1971) with his name and date of death, in the hand of Ṭihrānī (?) (front doublure). Ṭihrānī donated the codex, together with several other Ptolemaic manuscripts, to the Āstān-i Quds in Murdād 1361/​July-August 1982 (library slip).

Cod.: greenish-grey and yellowish paper, 240+IIa ff. (foliated with Persian forms of Hindu-Arabic numerals in pencil, repeating ‘236’; catchwords). At least two different hands. First hand: nastaʿlīq (1v–110v); almost fully dotted ductus, some vowel marks and few hamzas or shaddas. Second hand: bolder nastaʿlīq (111r–240v); almost fully dotted ductus, some vowel marks, hamzas and shaddas. Headings for Books I–V and VIII in bold black thuluth, for VI, VII, XIII in red, and for IX–XII in bold red thuluth; section headings in red and introduced by black or red abjad numerals. Diagrams with red lines and black geometrical points or sometimes vice-versa. Tables with red lines, mostly with headings in bold thuluth. Abjad and Persian variants of Hindu-Arabic numerals only rarely highlighted. Some fold-ins for diagrams, tables or marginal corrections or annotations (e.g., ff. 168, 205, 207). Text area on ff. 1v–54v surrounded by a goldish frame and blue rule-border; an empty space, probably intended for a headpiece and/or basmala, on f. 1v. Dimensions: 18.3×10.5 cm; 17 lines per page. Codex in good condition; some water damage, some stains, some margins and corners restored. Black leather covers.
