copied at least partially in Mashhad (pp. 38, 362) by Muḥammad Ṭāhir al-Mashhadī (pp. 91, 116, 362); he copied the codex on request by Mīrzā ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Mudarris of Mashhad and dedicated it to Rukn al-Dawla, who was appointed as the ruler of Khurasan by the Qājār Shāh, Nāṣir al-Dīn (introduction, marginal note by Ṭihrānī on p. XVIII). Significant parts of this codex were copied from a single exemplar which was split up into the current MSS Mashhad, Āstān-i Quds-i Raḍawī, 5206, 5207, 5293, 5295, 5299, 5387 and 5388 (cf. Aḥmad Gulchīn Maʿānī, Fihrist-i kutub-i khaṭṭī-i Kitābkhāna-i Āstān-i Quds-i Raḍawī, vol. VIII, Mashhad: Intishārāt-i Kitābkhāna-i Āstān-i Quds-i Raḍawī, 1971 (1350 H.S.), pp. 426–427 (no. 345) and see below).

a note dated 4 Shawwāl 1386/16 January 1967 by the scholar and politician Sayyid Jalāl al-Dīn Ṭihrānī (1896–1987) stating that he received the codex in 1312 H.S./1933-4 from ʿAbd al-Amīr Rashīdī Ḥāʾirī, who had received it from his father Ḥājj Shaykh Muḥammad b. al-Shaykh Māzandarānī and later became the Iranian ambassador in Tunisia (p. XXI); the codex was endowed to the library by Ṭihrānī together with MSS Mashhad, Āstān-i Quds, 12185⁢⁢⁢, 12225 and 12281 in Murdād 1361/July-August 1982 (library slip).

Cod.: paper, XXI+397 pp. (paginated with Persian forms of Hindu-Arabic numerals in red in the upper margins, from p. 100 onwards frequently with zeroes omitted or extra zeroes added, and with an unnumbered page after p. 112 and after p. 311; catchwords). A single black naskh hand; nearly fully dotted ductus with tanwīns, occasional vowel marks, frequent hamzas and some shaddas. Headings for book chapters in the first Ptolemaic work rubricated; Book IX of the first Ptolemaic work erroneously headed ‘al-maqāla al-ʿāshira’, as in the exemplar MS Mashhad, Āstān-i Quds, 5387; headings of verba in the second Ptolemaic work highlighted in red up to p. 142, then in blue. Abjad numerals not highlighted. Diagrams with red lines and blue geometrical points in the first Ptolemaic work. Codex modestly decorated; red, goldish, and blue frames for the main text, space for marginal annotations surrounded by a thin goldish frame. Codex in very good condition; some stains in the margins. Dimensions: 33.1×20.2 cm; 31 lines per page. Modern covers with marbled surface. Type III binding.
