a statement and seal by the Qajar prince and minister of science ʿAlīqulī Mīrzā (1238–1298/1822–1880), known as Iʿtiḍād al-Salṭana, dated 1270/1853-4. A second statement and seal dated 1292/1875-6 (5v). A statement of endowment and two seals, one of Ḥājjī Mīrzā Ḥusayn Sipahsālār (d. 1298/1881), known as Mushīr al-Dawla, dated 1297/1880 (14r), who bought the private library of Iʿtiḍād al-Salṭana and funded the endowment of the Sipahsālār mosque and madrasa in Tehran (see the EIrEhsan Yarshater (ed.), Encyclopaedia Iranica, 16 vols to date, London: Routledge / Kegan Paul, 1982– article ‘Eʿteżād-al-Salṭana, ʿAlīqolī Mīrzā’ by Abbas Amanat).

Cod.: brown paper, 192 ff. (foliated with Hindu-Arabic numerals in pencil starting from the first flyleaf, with ‘128’ repeated and ‘188’ written instead of ‘189’; an infrequent foliation in black ink, generally 5 less than the one in pencil; no catchwords). A single clear Andalusī bookhand in black ink; partially dotted ductus, frequent vowels and hamzas, no shaddas. Centered book and chapter headings in bold black. Geometrical points in the text are mainly written with a single letter, but on ff. 6r–21r they are given in full letter form (e.g., ‘point bāʾ’ instead of ‘point B’). Substantial diagrams mostly in the same black ink as the main text, although in some diagrams the points are indicated in red; a few blank spaces left for missing diagrams, and several diagrams on inserted unfoliated leaves (after ff. 68, 128, 129v, and 143v). No tables; blank spaces left for tables, except for the star catalogue. Dimensions: 28×20 cm, written area: 24×15 cm; 35 lines per page. Frequent moisture stains; worm-eaten throughout with restorations; binding in poor condition; empty bottom halves of ff. 91 and 169 cut off, f. 91 restored with a piece of paper. Covers in black leather over paper pasteboards. Type III binding.
