London, British Library, Or. 9115
〈10〉98/1686-7 (76v).
Or.:unknown; unknown scribe.
Prov.:bought on 10 June 1922 of J. B. Yahuda (note of acquisition, Iav; stamp, 76v), probably Isaac Benjamin Shlomo Ezekiel Yahuda, a bookseller in Cairo (cf. Evyn Kropf, ‘The Yemeni manuscripts of the Yahuda Collection at the University of Michigan. Provenance and Acquisition’, Chroniques du Manuscrit au Yémen 13 (2012), p. electronic).
Cod.: western paper (regular chain lines visible), I+76+Ia ff. (foliated with Arabic-European numerals in pencil; a previous foliation with Hindu-Arabic numerals starting from ‘131’ on f. 1 suggests that this manuscript was originally part of a larger codex; Hindu-Arabic numerals, apparently added by the rubricator, for each chapter in the tables of contents on ff. 1v, 22r, 39v, 63v appear to refer to a now invisible numbering of bifolia; catchwords in the scribe’s hand). A single very clear naskh hand in black. Almost fully dotted ductus, occasional tanwīn and final hamzas, maddas mostly indicated, few shaddas, frequent use of lām-alif muḥaqqaqa. Chapter titles and paragraph beginnings rubricated, beginnings of glosses by Thābit b. Qurra with red overlines. Mostly undotted abjad notation, rubricated in the main text. No tables or diagrams. Dimensions not provided; 23 lines per page (misṭara imprints). Codex in very good condition; some minor ink smudges, not affecting the readability; lower part of f. 72 repaired. Çarkuşe binding decorated with a golden frame and hatip ebru paper, doublures in yellow tinted paper. Mistaken attribution by the British Museum on the spine: ‘Thabit ibn Kurrah. Arbaʿ maqālāt’ (in gold). Type II binding.
