_ (the underscore) is the placeholder for exactly one character.
% (the percent sign) is the placeholder for no, one or more than one character.
%% (two percent signs) is the placeholder for no, one or more than one character, but not for blank space (so that a search ends at word boundaries).

At the beginning and at the end, these placeholders are superfluous.

sections of this and several other manuscripts from former Yugoslavia were copied on a single microfilm now under the shelfmark Tehran, Kitābkhāna-yi markazi-i Dānishgāh-i Tehrān, Film 2173. It was brougth to Iran by Dejan Bogdanovic (Dānishpazhūh, who calls him ‘Jan’), a Serbian-born French Orientalist who earned his PhD from Tehran University in 1964 with a thesis on Persian literature in 16th-century Yugoslavia (Bogdanovic & Brigaudiot). Bogdanovic most likely had the manuscripts photographed in Zagreb (“Dejan Bogdanović [...] Belgrade” and “Centre for scientific and technical documentation and production of the People’s Republic of Croatia” in Croatian on the first page of the microfilm). The Ptolemaic manuscript itself could not be identified.

. — Title: none. — Index: verba 1–24 and beginning of 25, ff. 34v–35r; end of verbum 100, f. 38v. — Undated scribal colophon. No marginalia. Beginning of verba overlined. Since the three parts of verbum 1 are not identified as independent verba and the first overlined verbum beginning is that of verbum 2, the present manuscript may be a witness of the 100 verba version, rather than of the version with 102 verba (cf. B.1.1). However, the verba are not numbered and the occurrence of verbum 1 as a unit may be fortuitous.
