a note by ʿInāyat al-Dawla dated to the first day (ghurra) of Jumādā l-thāniya 1281/1 November 1864 in the headpiece, surrounding the talismanic invocation yā kabīkaj (1v). A big oval seal ‘… Kutubkhāna Jalāliyya’ (?) dated 1248/1832-3, commonly found in Buhar manuscripts (1r, 386v); oval stamp of the Imperial Library (20v, 176v, 386r); the Buhar Library, founded by Munshī Sayyid Ṣadr al-Dīn in 1189/1775 as part of the Jalāliyya Madrasa in modern-day Bohar in Bengal, was presented to the Government of India in 1904.

Cod.: paper, 386 ff. (foliated with Urdu forms of Hindu-Arabic numerals in pencil, skipping 224, 344 and 371; catchwords). A single naskh hand with minor tendency to thuluth; almost completely dotted ductus with some vowel marks and hamzas and frequent shaddas; frequent elongated bowls and elongated alifs and lām-alif ligatures. Book and chapter headings and qawlu-hu in red; red overlines used for highlighting in the beginning of the codex. Abjad and Persian variants of Hindu-Arabic numerals overlined. The few included diagrams carefully drawn; blank spaces for diagrams and tables from the first part of chapter I.12 (f. 51r) onwards. Codex probably illuminated by ʿInāyat al-Dawla in 1281/1864 (see above): a large beautiful headpiece in various colours with floral motifs (1v); frame for the main text, space for marginal annotations surrounded by a thin frame, both mainly in gold; space between the frames on ff. 1v–2r filled with fine floral motifs; interlinear space on ff. 1v–2r and space around the marginal annotations on f. 2r coloured. Codex in acceptable condition; damage by insects throughout, sometimes affecting the readability; restorations with numerous pasted slips of paper; margins often ‘stained with damp’ (Hidāyat Ḥusain). Dimensions: c. 28×17¼ cm, written area: c. 20¼×9½ cm; 26 lines per page.
