an undated smudged Arabic statement of ownership by a certain al-Qayyūmī, who also copied the first part of the manuscript (‘wa-baʿḍ min-hā bi-khaṭṭi-hī ayḍan’, 1r). A statement of ownership by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAlī b. al-Muʾayyad dated Sunday, 14 Jumādā l-ūlā 914/10 September 1508 in Constantinople (1r). An undated statement of ownership by Shaykh Muḥammad b. Luṭf Allāh (1r); an undated statement of ownership by Ḥasan al-… al-Ḥanafī (1r). German title ‘Commentar zum Almagest’ (Ir); an oval old stamp ‘Ex Bibl. Regia Berolin.’ (1r); accession number ‘10,310’ (1r, inner back cover).

Cod.: paper, I+112+IIIa ff. (foliated with Arabic-European numerals in pencil; an older foliation with Hindu-Arabic numerals at the top centre of versos, skipping f. 14 and the number ‘88’; catchwords). Two different nastaʿlīq hands, both in black; textual dividers in the form of a circle with a dot at the centre. First hand (1v–19r): occasionally dotted ductus, every section introduced by qawlu-hū/aqūl in red (sometimes left blank; e.g., 17r, 18r, 19r); four diagrams with lines in red and letters in black (6r, 11v), two empty spaces for diagrams reserved (11v, 12v). Second hand (19r–112r): very neat but irregularly dotted ductus; every section introduced by qawlu-hū in red; one diagram with lines in black and letters in red (24v); occasional overlined initials; abjad numbers and geometrical points in black or red; very rare Hindu-Arabic numerals (e.g., 41r). Some of the beginnings of books or chapters were indicated in the margins by a different hand (16v, 39v, 43r, 80r). Codex in good condition; moisture stains on the lower half and in the inner upper corners of all folios, not affecting the readability; minor damage caused by insects in the margins. Dimensions: 17⅔×13 cm, written area: 12×8½ cm; 19 lines per page. Dark brown leather covers with simple frames and small blind stamped central circle. Type III binding.
