the first part of the present manuscript may be identical with a Sharḥ Thamarat Baṭlamyūs listed among the books of Muḥammad b. Ṭāhir b. Ḥabīb al-Samāwī (RIMA); al-Samawī’s private collection was partly sold to the Maktabat al-Imām al-Ḥakīm after his death in 1950 (see Sabine Schmidtke, ‘Saʿd b. Manṣūr Ibn Kammūna’s Writings and Transcriptions in the Maktabat al-Rawḍa al-Ḥaydariyya, Najaf. Preservation, Loss, and Recovery of the Philosophical Heritage of Muslims and Jews’, Intellectual History of the Islamicate World 10 (2022), pp. 278–325, here pp. 293–294; see also MS Princeton, UL, Garrett 34Yq).

Cod.: paper, 96+69+Ia pp. (first section not paginated, we have assigned odd page numbers to rectos; second section paginated with Hindu-Arabic numerals, p. 2 being a verso; catchwords). Two different hands for the two sections. Aḥmad al-Rashtī’s hand (pp. 2–95): a very clear black naskh; fully dotted ductus with shaddas, tanwīns, maddas and sporadic alif khanjariyyas and hamzas; title and section beginnings (including al-sharḥ for the commentary) in red; Pseudo-Ptolemy’s verba and various sentence beginnings overlined in red; Hindu-Arabic numerals in red, verbum numbers written out both in red in the main text and in black in the margin, with the corresponding abjad numerals in red in the margin. Second hand (pp. 2, 69): a smaller black naskh; fully dotted ductus with maddas; chapter titles in red, section beginnings overlined in red; abjad numerals in red. A horoscope, drawn with a ruler, with lines in red, text in black, abjad numerals in black, and Hindu-Arabic numerals in red (p. 69). Codex in good condition; inner margins reinforced with tape. Dimensions: 19.3×13.5 cm; 17 lines per page in the first section, 23 in the second section.
