An Arabic translation of al-Ṭūsī’s Persian commentary on the Thamara (C.3.4), quoting the Arabic verba of the base text in full. Nine manuscripts are known to exist, of which eight could be consulted. Seven manuscripts contain basically the same text and omit the commentary on Pseudo-Ptolemy’s introduction and the Greek title of the Thamara in the colophon. The late MS Tehran, Millī, 7450 preserves the introduction and the Greek title but lacks in turn the preface praising al-Ṭūsī and his dedicatee; furthermore, its wording departs from that of the other witnesses to various degrees in the course of the work. The relationship between the two versions remains to be investigated and they may turn out to be independent translations of the same source text. No manuscripts indicate the name of the translator(s), but Rukn al-Dīn Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Muḥammad al-Jurjānī (fl. c. 697–728/1297–1327) is known to have translated al-Ṭūsī’s commentary thanks to a reference in a different al-Ṭūsī translation of his (Muḥammad Mudarrisī, Khwāja-yi Naṣīr al-Dīn-i Ṭūsī. With an Introduction and Explanatory Notes, Leiden: Brill, 2015, pp. 9–10). His possible involvement in either known version is yet to be confirmed.

Ed.: None, but a transcription has been published on various online forums (it can be located by searching for ‘ يريد بعلم النجوم في هذا المحلّ علم أحكام النجوم’). This transcription is based on MS Najaf, al-Imām al-Ḥakīm, 1263, as shown by the scribal colophon and by the fact that a lacuna indicated in the transcription matches the text on pp. 93–94 of the manuscript, which have been mistakenly skipped.
