Prov.:the manuscript was acquired from the heirs of Reverend George Cecil Renouard (1780–1867) on 27 March 1867 (note on f. Iav). Numerous stamps of the British Museum. Former shelfmarks (?): ‘O.R. 34. A.g.’ and ‘290. c.’ (Iar).
Cod.: paper, 105+Ia ff. (foliated with Arabic-European numerals in pencil; earlier foliation with Hindu-Arabic numerals in pen ranging from 1 to 110 with many irregularities; occasional catchwords). Two hands. First hand (2v–65v): a neat naskh; mostly dotted ductus, very frequent vowel marks, shaddas and hamzas, frequent use of rubrication. Second hand (69r–104r): a sloppy naskh with tendency to nastaʿlīq; mostly dotted ductus, some vowel marks and shaddas, few hamzas. Excerpts (1r–v, 105r–v) in a sloppy, mostly dotted nastaʿlīq hand. Headings for Books I–VII in red, IX–XIII in bold black; section headings by the first hand in red and introduced by red overlined abjad numerals, by the second hand in bold black and introduced by overlined bold black abjad numerals; propositions numbered in the margins with red overlined abjad numerals. Abjad numerals in red or in black with overlines; Persian forms of Hindu-Arabic numerals in red with overlines. Carefully drawn diagrams with red lines and black geometrical points or occasionally vice versa. Tables with red lines; some empty tables for part of the star catalogue (65v–68v). Spaces reserved for some diagrams and for almost all tables in the part copied by the second hand. Codex in good condition; water damage in the upper and lower margins, minor restorations. Brown leather covers with golden borders; marbled paper pastedowns. Dimensions: not provided; 33 lines per page (misṭara imprints). Type II binding.
