An annotation on the flyleaf is explicitly indicated to have been copied from al-Shirāzī’s handwriting (p. 2).
Prov.:a statement of endowment in the name of Muḥammad ... b. Muḥammad dated 810/1407-8 (p. 3) and the word ‘waqf’ in the upper margin of every recto. A partially erased statement of purchase and possession dated 920/1514-5 in the city of Simnān (p. 3). Another statement of purchase and ownership by Sayyid Nūr al-Dīn dated Shaʿbān 1090/September-October 1679 with an oval seal (p. 1). An ownership statement by Jamāl [al-Dīn b.] ʿAbd Allāh Ḥusaynī [Gurgānī] (p. 425, see also Dānishpazhūh & Munzawī). An ownership statement by Ibrahīm b. ʿAbd al-Ghaffār ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Raḍawī dated Dhū l-qaʿda 1144/April-May 1732 together with two of his seals, one square and one oval (p. 3). An erased ownership statement (p. 3); a partially illegible stamp (p. 309).
Cod.: oriental paper, 576 pp. (paginated with odd Hindu-Arabic numerals, Persian variants, in the upper left corner of every recto; traces of a foliation in pencil visible on most pages; no catchwords). A neat round naskh hand; mostly dotted, shaddas and hamzas often provided, occasional vowel marks. Titles of works in the collection mostly in bold black ink, on occasion with red subtitles or entirely missing. Book titles of the Taḥrīr al-Majisṭī also bold and in black thuluth, chapter and paragraph beginnings rubricated. Chapter beginnings additionally introduced by bold and overlined abjad numerals in black, subsections numbered with red overlined abjad numerals in the margins. Some textual dividers in the form of three red dots. Hindu-Arabic and abjad numbers in the main text mostly rubricated and with overlines. Numerous diagrams, tables, and a rosette (p. 501); diagram lines and geometrical points in black and red; tables with red lines, numbers and headers in red and black. Codex in good condition; some restorations with pasted slips of paper in corners and folds. Dimensions: 34.5×24.5 cm; 37 lines per page (misṭara imprints).
Cont.: astronomy, mathematics, and optics. Naṣīr al-Dīn al-Ṭūsī’s recensions of the Elements and the Almagest, together with the ‘Middle Books’ (Taḥrīr al-Mutawassiṭāt), his collection of revised treatises to be studied between the two major works.—
