a statement of purchase in Tehran dated 9 Rabīʿ al-ākhir 1316/27 August 1898 together with a religious seal (p. 2). A square seal of the Kitābkhāna-yi Millī-yi markazī-yi Īrān with date 7 Jūmāda al-thāniya 1316/23 October 1898 (p. 1); several newer square and round seals of the Millī Library, partially faded (for example, pp. 1, 2, 317). Old shelfmark: ‘31 Q’.

Cod.: western laid paper (six chain-lines in regular distance) with watermark (emblem with Latin cross, decorative outline and floral ornament on top, see p. I), III+325+Ia pp. (irregular and occasionally erroneous pagination with pencil in Hindu-Arabic numerals, with odd numbers corresponding to versos; no catchwords). A single, very clear naskh hand in black. Mostly dotted ductus; no indication of vowels or hamzas, occasional shaddas. Book and chapter headings in red, some empty spaces reserved for rubrication; ink partially erased and new text supplemented, apparently by the scribe. No tables; empty spaces reserved for horoscopes on pp. 266, 269 and 271. Dimensions: 205×300 mm, written area: 115×215 mm; 25 lines per page (misṭara imprints visible). Codex in very good condition, some small scorch marks. Cover in simple brown leather with grid pattern over paper pasteboards. Type III binding.

Cont.: astrology. — Index: Ptolemaica (pp. 1–317); notes on astrology, including quotes from Pseudo-Ptolemy’s Kitāb al-Thamara (verba 77 and 31, here numbered 79 and 33) and Zarathustra’s Kitāb al-Mawālīd (pp. 318–319).
