Origin: A short comment on Almagest XIII.4 by an anonymous author. Due to a somewhat different structure in the two main copies of the text, namely MS Oxford, BL, Thurston 3 and MS Istanbul, Topkapı, Hazine 455, the original extent of the text is uncertain. In particular, the subsection header Fī ʿIlm miqdār zāwiyat mayl saṭḥ falak al-tadwīr ʿalā saṭḥ ḥāmil fī kull wāḥid min al-kawākib al-khamsa (Thurston 3, f. 74r:22) has the same layout as the titles of the surrounding independent treatises in Hazine 455, f. 118v. These two witnesses also differ in that Thurston 3 preserves an extensive gloss, written vertically at the bottom of the page, which was copied into the main text of MS Oxford, BL, Marsh 720, ff. 133r–v. The text may originally have been part of a larger collection of propositions (such as C.1.22) or belong to another anonymous treatise preserved in the same witnesses.
