Muqaddimāt tataʿalliqu bi-ḥarakāt al-kawākib
A collection of geometrical propositions, most of which refer directly to figures from Ptolemy’s Almagest. In the only two witnesses, MSS Istanbul, Nuruosmaniye, 2971 and Ankara, University, Ismail Saib 5092, it can roughly be divided into the following three parts:
A: The first six propositions are simply numbered from one to six without any further indication of their topic (Nuruosmaniye, ff. 67v–69v; Ankara, ff. 60r–62r). They do not contain explicit references to the Almagest.
B: These propositions refer explicitly to figures from Books IX and XII of the Almagest (e.g., Iʿtirāḍ ʿalā l-shakl al-rābiʿ min al-jumla al-sādisa min al-maqāla al-tāsiʿa min Kitāb al-Majisṭī; Muqaddimāt tataʿalliqu bi-l-thāniya ʿashar min al-Majisṭī) (Nuruosmaniye, ff. 69v–72v; Ankara, ff. 62r–65v).
C: This last part (Nuruosmaniye, ff. 72v–74r; Ankara, ff. 65v–67v) is entitled Geometrical Questions (Masāʾil handasiyya). It contains at least one direct reference to Book X of the Almagest (f. 73r).
In three other manuscripts (Oxford, BL, Thurston 3 and its copy Oxford, BL, Marsh 720 as well as Istanbul, Topkapı, Hazine 455) the parts of this collection can be found in a different order and much of the text was reformulated; for this alternative version, see C.1.30.
