This is a reworked and expanded version of Thābit b. Qurra’s treatise on solar und lunar motion as described in Almagest IV.2 (C.1.4). The relationship between the two versions has been discussed by Morelon (Thābit ibn Qurra, esp. pp. lxxxii–lxxxiii). This second version consists of three parts, of which the first is a complete reworking of the original treatise, possibly by Quṭb al-Dīn al-Shīrāzī, with much of the technical terminology modified. The remaining two parts (in MS Istanbul, Topkapı, Hazine 455 starting on f. 77r, line 3), which are not included in the main witness of the original version (see MS Istanbul, Köprülü, Fazıl Ahmed Paşa 948, pp. 91–107), contain further notes on Book IV of the Almagest which are ascribed to Thābit in the respective colophons. Morelon (Thābit ibn Qurra, p. lxxxii) considers the ascription of these two parts to Thābit doubtful and did not edit or translate them.

[First part] (74r–77r) كلّ زمانين متساويين فإنّ كلّ واحد من النيّرين إنّما يستوي حركته الحقيقيّة فيهما على أحد أربعة أوجه فقط — فإذا قسمنا هذا المسير على عدد أيّام الزمان كان ما يخرج وهو وسط القمر في اليوم الواحد معلومًا. [Second part] (77r–78r) لمّا كان الفصل في الزمان الذي حكاه بطلميوس في الباب الثاني من المقالة الرابعة عن أبرخس — كان ما يبقي يحيط بشهور تامّة يمكن الوقوف على عدّتها يمثل ما تقدّم. [Third part] (78r–v) إنّ عمل في الأفلاك التي وضعنا بطلميوس للقمر في المقالة الرابعة والخامسة من المجسطي على أنّ مرطز فلك التدوير يقطع على توالي البروج — الخطّ المحرّك للخارج المركز لمحيط الخارج المركز من تحته. هذا آخر ما وجد من كلام ثابت في هذا الباب. والله أعلم.
