A long note in Quṭb al-Dīn al-Shīrāzī’s hand dated to late Shaʿbān 684/October 1285 (1r) states that he requested a copy of the Taḥrīr for the library of a certain Jamāl al-Dīn, but apologises for not having enough time to collate and correct it thoroughly (cf. al-Shīrāzī’s hand in MS Istanbul, Topkapı, Ahmet III 3455 as well as his reading certificate on the title page of MS Istanbul, Millet, Feyzullah Efendi 300; Quṭb al-Dīn was in Sivas in Jumādā l-ūlā 684/July-August 1285 (see Kaveh Niazi, Quṭb al-Dīn Shīrāzī and the Configuration of the Heavens. A Comparison of Texts and Models, Dordrecht: Springer, 2014, p. 75). Another note on f. 1r states ‘this copy in the hand of al-Shīrāzī is very important/sublime’ (hadhā l-nuskha bi-khaṭṭ al-Shīrāzī jalīla jiddan).

(foliated with Hindu-Arabic numerals in pencil above the body text on every verso, skipping the small slip of paper after f. 90 but including the leaf of smaller size after f. 78 as f. 79; a previous foliation of ff. 91–110 by the same hand, including the slip after f. 90 but crossed out; an earlier foliation with Hindu-Arabic numerals in pen at the top left of versos skipping both smaller leaves and hence ending at 109; no catchwords). A single clear naskh hand in brown; almost fully dotted ductus, occasional vowels, hamzas and shaddas. Book and chapter titles in a slightly bigger red naskh hand, at times in thuluth; a second cursive naskh hand in tables. Abjad notation in black or brown with red overlines or in red with black overlines. Diagrams mostly with red lines and black geometrical points, at times the other way around; tables in red, black and brown; blank spaces for a table on f. 52v and for a diagram on f. 100r. Codex in very good condition; major restorations of the first leaf, substantial handling stains on outer corners, hardly any moisture stains. Dimensions: 24.7×17.5 cm, written area: 18.9×9.5 cm; 35 lines per page. Covers in brown leather with a blind-stamped square-shaped geometric ornament, frame and corner pieces. Type III binding, Persian safīna.
